Meet Laura
I’ve always had an interest in hairstyling...
but ended up doing recreation therapy for adults with special needs for many years before I realized that I felt compelled to pursue my passion for hairstyling. I went to hairstyling school at Gina’s College and loved the art behind each cut and colour. My killer blue eye for design fuels my talent and my ongoing professional development just makes my hungry for more knowledge because I’m constantly striving to be the best stylist I can be. I take pride in creating a look that truly reflects who you are and makes you feel outstanding.
As a curly girl, growing up I went through the triangle haircuts...
and frizz instead of curl. Usually I would leave a salon with my hair straightened which did nothing for my fine thin hair. It was during my hairstyling apprenticeship that I discovered DevaCurl cutting and styling techniques. The dry curl by curl cutting completely changed my approach to curly hair and, also changed how I felt about my own hair. The best part of being a hairstylist is teaching others how to love the texture that they have and how to incorporate that with trends and their personal style.
With the arrival of each of my three children my hair and my curls changed...
My curls would be thicker and curlier, and then flat and more wavy than curly but I have the knowledge to make the most of any hair texture. My oldest daughter has curls much like mine and she already knows all about curly girl techniques like pineapple-ing and will grow up embracing her natural texture. My young family is my focus but I love being able to continue to educate myself as a stylist and balance being both a mom and curl specialist. Working with curly hair is my passion and it is so fulfilling to help others on their curl journey.
Some of the qualities that made me excel...
as a recreation therapist also make me a fantastic stylist. I love connecting with others and will truly listen to what’s going on in your life. There’s no judgement and I’m happy to provide a positive listening ear. I call it hair-apy. I honestly care for each person in my chair like they were a member of my family. A career with this level of personal interaction is perfect for my outgoing, happy personality. I’d love to guide your style and relationship with your hair so you approach it with knowledge and a sense of adventure, not something to be feared.
